Seleno-methionine
Applications:
All animals
Definition:
Selenium is an essential trace element nutrient with multiple roles in animal health and production. Selenomethionine is a kind of organic selenium source, presented in the same form naturally in plants. It improves animal performance by providing a safer, more bioavailable source of selenium that animals can absorb, retain and utilize for their metabolic processes far more efficiently than inorganic selenium sources. The ability of selenomethionine to be incorporated into the body proteins in place of methionine, furthermore provides a means of reversible selenium storage in organs and tissues, which lets animals build nutrient reserves against periods of increased requirement without the threaten of toxicity. Current evidence favors selenomethionine over the other forms of selenium.
